daughter1 of Lot

Patriarchs (Abraham–Joseph) Early Patriarch · H3876H
Old Testament

Lot's unnamed elder daughter, who bore Moab after the destruction of Sodom.

Lot's elder daughter, unnamed in Genesis 19, was one of the two daughters who survived the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah by fleeing with their father to the cave in the hills near Zoar. Believing all men on earth had been destroyed along with the cities, she and her younger sister devised a plan to preserve their father's line by making him drunk and lying with him (Genesis 19:30–36). She bore a son named Moab, who became the ancestor of the Moabite people — a nation with which Israel maintained a complex and often contentious relationship throughout the biblical period.
