Elead was an Ephraimite who was killed by the men of Gath.
Elead was an Ephraimite, a descendant of Ephraim through Ezer (or Ezra), who was killed along with his brother by men of Gath when they came down to raid the cattle of the Gathites (1 Chronicles 7:21). Their deaths caused their father Ephraim great grief, and Ephraim later named a son Beriah ('in calamity') in memory of the disaster. The account provides a rare glimpse of Ephraimite family history during the period of Israel's sojourn in or migration from Egypt.
