Jerahmeel

Divided Kingdom Tribe of Levi · H3396H
Old Testament

Jerahmeel was a Levite of the family of Merari, as recorded in the genealogy in 1 Chronicles.

Jerahmeel was a Levite, a son of Kish from the Merarite family, who received a Levitical assignment during David's organization of temple service (1 Chronicles 24:29). This Jerahmeel should be distinguished from the prominent Jerahmeel son of Hezron from the tribe of Judah (1 Chronicles 2:9), who gave his name to the Jerahmeelites of southern Judah (1 Samuel 27:10). King Jehoiakim also sent a Jerahmeel to arrest Jeremiah and Baruch (Jeremiah 36:26), another distinct individual. The Levitical Jerahmeel of Chronicles represents the Merarite branch's participation in David's temple organization.
