Maon

Maon was a son of Shammai and a descendant of Caleb in the tribe of Judah, described as the 'father of Beth-zur' in 1 Chronicles 2:45—meaning the founder or civic ancestor of that fortified town in the Judean highlands. Beth-zur was an important city that guarded the approaches to Hebron and Jerusalem and appears in the lists of both the conquest and the Maccabean period. Maon the person should be distinguished from the wilderness of Maon associated with David's fugitive years in 1 Samuel 23:24–25.
