Matred was the mother of Mehetabel, who was the wife of Hadar, king of Edom.
Matred was the daughter of Mezahab and the mother of Mehetabel, who became the wife of Hadar (Hadad), the last named king of Edom before the era of Edomite chiefs (Genesis 36:39; 1 Chronicles 1:50). Her name and that of her father Mezahab ('waters of gold') are notable for preserving a double matrilineal genealogy—unusual in ancient Near Eastern royal records—alongside the Edomite king list. She is known only through these genealogical notices.
