Nahshon

Tribe of Judah · H5177
Old Testament

Nahshon, the son of Amminadab, was a leader of the tribe of Judah during the Exodus and an ancestor of King David and Jesus Christ.

Nahshon son of Amminadab was the prince of the tribe of Judah during the wilderness period, leading Judah's contingent of 74,600 men in the first census (Numbers 1:7; 2:3–4). He presented the first tribal offering at the dedication of the tabernacle (Numbers 7:12–17) and was the brother-in-law of Aaron through his sister Elisheba's marriage (Exodus 6:23). Nahshon occupies a crucial position in the messianic genealogy as the father of Salmon and ancestor of Boaz, Jesse, David, and ultimately Jesus Christ (Ruth 4:20; Matthew 1:4; Luke 3:32).
