Phicol, the commander of the army of Abimelech, the Philistine king of Gerar, who accompanied Abimelech in making treaties with Abraham and Isaac.

Phicol was the commander of the army of Abimelech, the Philistine king of Gerar, and accompanied Abimelech in treaty negotiations with both Abraham (Genesis 21:22, 32) and Isaac (Genesis 26:26). His role in both covenants—separated by a generation—has led some scholars to posit that Phicol was a hereditary title rather than a personal name, or alternatively that the two narratives represent variant traditions of the same event. The treaties established at Beersheba defined the territorial boundaries between the patriarchal households and the Philistine city-states.
