The Philistines, a people group descended from Mizraim, the son of Ham, according to the Table of Nations in Genesis and 1 Chronicles.

The Philistines were a people descended from Casluhim, son of Mizraim (Egypt), according to the Table of Nations (Genesis 10:14; 1 Chronicles 1:12). Archaeological and historical evidence identifies them as part of the Sea Peoples who settled the southern coastal plain of Canaan around 1200 BC, bringing with them Aegean material culture. They organized themselves into a pentapolis of five city-states—Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron—and became one of Israel's most persistent adversaries from the period of the judges through the early monarchy.
