Uriah was a priest during the reign of King Ahaz who followed the king's instructions in building a new altar based on a pagan model from Damascus.
Uriah was the priest in Jerusalem during the reign of King Ahaz who received instructions to build a replica of the altar Ahaz had seen in Damascus and who faithfully implemented the king's directions for the new sacrificial arrangements (2 Kings 16:10–16). The prophet Isaiah called two reliable witnesses to attest to his prophecy, and Uriah the priest is named as one of them (Isaiah 8:2), suggesting he was a figure of public credibility. He is distinct from the more famous Uriah the Hittite, the husband of Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11).
