The promise 'in those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land' repeats and expands Jeremiah 23:5's original Branch oracle, embedding the Davidic messianic hope within the 'Book of Consolation' (chapters 30-33). The title 'Branch' (tsemach, a shoot, growth) echoes Isaiah 4:2 ('the branch of the Lord shall be beautiful'), Zechariah 3:8 and 6:12 ('my servant the Branch'), developing into a distinct messianic title-complex across the prophets. The emphasis on 'judgment and righteousness' as the Branch's programme connects his coming to the restoration of God's moral order — not merely political deliverance but the comprehensive shalom that Israel's covenant had promised. Luke 1:69 ('a horn of salvation…in the house of his servant David') applies this promise to Jesus, and Revelation 22:16 ('the root and offspring of David') combines Branch and Root imagery in a single christological title.
