Anani

Anani was a descendant of David, listed in the genealogy of the royal house of Judah that Chronicles extends beyond the Babylonian exile (1 Chronicles 3:24). He was among the sons of Elioenai in the seventh generation after Zerubbabel, placing him in the late Persian period. The careful preservation of these post-exilic royal descendants in Chronicles reflects the ongoing importance of Davidic genealogy for the community's hope in a future messianic restoration. Some scholars have noted that 'Anani' may be a shortened form of Ananiah, meaning 'Yahweh has covered' or 'protected by Yahweh.'
