Beerah

Divided Kingdom Tribe of Reuben · H0880
Old Testament

Beerah, a leader from the tribe of Reuben, was taken into exile by Tiglath-Pileser, king of Assyria.

Beerah was a leader from the tribe of Reuben, the son of Baal and a chief of his clan, who was taken into exile by Tiglath-Pileser III, king of Assyria (1 Chronicles 5:6). His deportation is recorded as part of the Assyrian policy of displacing conquered populations to prevent rebellion. Beerah's fate represents the catastrophic end of Reubenite tribal leadership east of the Jordan when the northern territories fell to Assyrian power in the eighth century BC.
