Ben-hail, a Levite, was sent by Jehoshaphat to teach in Judah.

Ben-hail was a Levite—or a royal official—sent by King Jehoshaphat of Judah to teach God's law throughout the cities of Judah (2 Chronicles 17:7). Jehoshaphat's teaching initiative, dispatching princes, Levites, and priests with the Book of the Law, represented an early example of systematic religious education in Israel. Ben-hail's participation in this mission reflects the Chronicler's presentation of Jehoshaphat as a king committed to covenantal faithfulness.
