Carmi, the son of Reuben, was the father of the Carmite clan.
Carmi was a son of Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and one of the seventy members of Jacob's household who entered Egypt (Genesis 46:9; Exodus 6:14). His descendants became the Carmite clan within the tribe of Reuben (Numbers 26:6). A different Carmi appears in Joshua 7:1 as the grandfather of Achan, the Israelite who violated the ban at Jericho and brought judgment on the camp. The Reubenite Carmi is distinct from Achan's ancestor of the same name.
