Hacaliah was the father of Nehemiah, who served as the governor of Judah during the Persian period.
Hacaliah was the father of Nehemiah the governor and cupbearer to King Artaxerxes of Persia (Nehemiah 1:1). He is mentioned at the very opening of the book of Nehemiah, which begins with 'the words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah.' Though nothing further is said of him personally, his son's distinguished career as the rebuilder of Jerusalem's walls and reformer of the post-exilic community makes him a significant figure in the lineage of the restoration.
