Hamor

Old Testament

Hamor, a Hivite prince, was the father and founder of Shechem and negotiated with Jacob's sons after Shechem's assault on Dinah.

Hamor was the Hivite ruler of Shechem and the father of Shechem, who violated Jacob's daughter Dinah and then sought to marry her (Genesis 33:19; 34:2–26). Hamor negotiated with Jacob and his sons for the marriage and proposed a broader policy of intermarriage and economic integration between his people and Israel. The negotiations were subverted by Jacob's sons Simeon and Levi, who killed Hamor, his son, and all the males of the city in revenge for Dinah's violation. Acts 7:16 notes that Abraham had purchased a tomb from the sons of Hamor at Shechem.
