Hemdan was a descendant of Seir the Horite, mentioned in the genealogies of Esau.
Hemdan (called Amram in 1 Chronicles 1:41) was a son of Dishon and a Horite chieftain, listed in Genesis 36:26 in the genealogy of Seir the Horite. He belonged to the pre-Edomite clans of the land of Seir whose names and clan structures are recorded in Genesis 36 alongside the Edomite genealogy. The textual variant between Hemdan and Amram in the parallel Chronicles passage reflects the common scribal phenomenon of confusion between similar Hebrew letters in the manuscript tradition.
