The Horites were a people group who inhabited the region of Seir before the Edomites.
Hori was a son of Lotan and grandson of Seir, listed in the genealogy of the Horite chiefs who inhabited the region of Edom before the Edomites displaced them (Genesis 36:22; 1 Chronicles 1:39). The Horites are identified in the Table of Nations and in Deuteronomy 2:12 as the original inhabitants of the land of Seir, whom the descendants of Esau dispossessed. His brother was Hemam (or Homam), and through these lineages the ancient peoples of the Transjordanian highlands are traced in the biblical ethnographic record.
