Naphish, a son of Ishmael, was among the Hagrite tribes defeated by the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.
Naphish was the eleventh son of Ishmael and a grandson of Abraham, listed in the Table of Ishmael's sons as an ancestor of an Arabian tribal group (Genesis 25:15; 1 Chronicles 1:31). The Naphishites were among the Hagrite groups defeated by the Transjordanian tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half-Manasseh in the time of Saul (1 Chronicles 5:19). His tribe inhabited the Arabian steppe regions east and northeast of Gilead. The name Naphish appears to correspond to the Napisu people attested in Assyrian records.
