Obal

Patriarchs (Abraham–Joseph) Early Patriarch · H5745
Old Testament

Obal was one of the sons of Joktan, a descendant of Shem, mentioned in the Table of Nations.

Obal, also written Ebal in 1 Chronicles 1:22, was a son of Joktan and a descendant of Shem, listed in the Table of Nations among the peoples of southern Arabia (Genesis 10:28). He belongs to the thirteen sons of Joktan who are generally understood to represent the tribal groupings of the Arabian Peninsula. The textual variation between Obal (Genesis) and Ebal (Chronicles) likely reflects a scribal or manuscript difference in the transmission of the Table of Nations.
