Tema

Patriarchs (Abraham–Joseph) Arabia · H8485G
Old Testament

Tema was a son of Ishmael and is associated with the ancient Arabian city of Tema.

Tema was one of the twelve sons of Ishmael, Abraham's son by Hagar, listed in the genealogy of Genesis 25:15 and 1 Chronicles 1:30. His name corresponds to the ancient oasis city of Tema in northwestern Arabia, which appears in Assyrian inscriptions and in the prophetic writings of Isaiah (21:14) and Jeremiah (25:23) as an important caravan center. Tema thus represents both a person and the eponymous ancestor of an Ishmaelite tribal group associated with that region.
