Zippor

Exodus & Wilderness Moab · H6834
Old Testament

Zippor was the father of Balak, the king of Moab who hired Balaam to curse Israel.

Zippor was a Moabite, the father of Balak, the king of Moab who hired the diviner Balaam son of Beor to curse Israel when the Israelites encamped on the plains of Moab prior to the conquest of Canaan (Numbers 22:2, 4, 10, 16; Joshua 24:9; Judges 11:25). Balak is consistently identified as 'son of Zippor' throughout the Balaam narrative, underscoring Zippor's significance as the founder of the Moabite royal line that sought to oppose Israel through supernatural means.
