'For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.' The dual metaphor — sun (illumination, life-giving energy) and shield (protection) — covers both what believers need from God and what God supplies without limit. The promise 'no good thing will he withhold' is among the Psalter's boldest positive statements about divine provision, and Romans 8:32 ('he that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?') is its New Testament counterpart. The qualifier 'them that walk uprightly' grounds the promise in the covenantal relationship rather than suggesting merit-based access.
