The vineyard Song (5:1-7) is the most sustained agricultural allegory in the Hebrew prophets, carefully structured to draw the listener into a judicial verdict before revealing they are the accused (5:7). The withdrawal of rainfall — God commanding the clouds — reverses Deuteronomy 11:14's promise of rain in its season for obedient Israel, making natural blessing and natural curse mirror spiritual fidelity and infidelity. Jesus adapts the vineyard allegory in Mark 12:1-9 (the wicked tenants), and John 15:1-6 radically reorients it around Christ himself as the true vine who sustains his branches.
