Lamentations 4:21
Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked.

Study Note
The taunting irony 'rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of Uz; the cup also shall pass through unto thee: thou shalt be drunken, and shalt make thyself naked' employs the sarcastic imperative ('rejoice!' — knowing that judgment is coming) against Edom's celebration of Jerusalem's fall. Edom's involvement in or at least approval of Jerusalem's destruction is a recurring theme in exilic literature: Psalm 137:7 ('remember, O Lord, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem'), Obadiah 1:10-14, and Ezekiel 25:12-14 all express this grievance. The image of the cup of wrath 'passing through' draws on Jeremiah 25:15-29's vision of the cup of divine fury that all nations must drink. The verse represents one of the moments in Lamentations where the bitterness of the survivors' experience becomes displaced into imprecatory hope for the reversal of roles.
