Old Testament

Amasiah, the son of Zichri, was a commander who willingly offered himself for the service of the Lord during the reign of King Jehoshaphat.

Amasiah son of Zichri was a military commander in the army of King Jehoshaphat of Judah, in charge of 200,000 men of valor (2 Chronicles 17:16). He is specifically described as one 'who willingly offered himself to the service of the LORD'—a phrase that highlights voluntary dedication to God's cause, echoing the language of the tabernacle offerings. Jehoshaphat's military reorganization, described in 2 Chronicles 17:14–18, assigned each commander to his division, and Amasiah's position indicates he was among the senior officers of Judah's standing army during a period of relative peace and covenant faithfulness.
