Amzi

Divided Kingdom Tribe of Levi · H0557G
Old Testament

Amzi, a descendant of Merari, was a Levite who served as a musician in the temple.

Amzi was a Levite of the clan of Merari, an ancestor in the genealogical line of the temple musicians described in 1 Chronicles 6:46. He was the son of Bani and the father of Hilkiah, forming part of the long chain of Levitical descent that Chronicles traces from the sons of Levi down to the musicians appointed by David. The Merarites had responsibility for the structural elements of the tabernacle—frames, crossbars, posts, and bases (Numbers 4:29–33)—and their descendants continued in Levitical service through the monarchic period into the restoration.
