Asen

Old Testament

Asen was an ancestor of 223 individuals who returned to Jerusalem from Babylonian captivity.

Asen (more commonly known as Hassenaah or Senaah) was the head of a family from which 223 individuals returned to Jerusalem from the Babylonian captivity with Zerubbabel (Ezra 2:35; Nehemiah 7:38 lists 3,930 for Senaah, indicating uncertainty about whether these are the same family). Some members of this family repaired the Fish Gate in Jerusalem during Nehemiah's rebuilding project (Nehemiah 3:3). The family represents one of the larger lay clans that returned from exile and contributed to the physical reconstruction of Jerusalem's infrastructure during the restoration period.
