daughter of Putiel

Exodus & Wilderness > · H6317H
Old Testament

The daughter of Putiel was the wife of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest.

The daughter of Putiel was the wife of Eleazar son of Aaron the high priest, and the mother of Phinehas, whose zealous act of killing an Israelite man and a Midianite woman during the apostasy at Peor averted a devastating plague and earned him God's covenant of perpetual priesthood (Exodus 6:25; Numbers 25:7–13). She is unnamed in the text and known only through this brief genealogical notice linking Putiel's family to the Aaronite priestly line.
