Hadlai

Old Testament

Hadlai was the father of Amasa, who opposed taking captives from Judah during the reign of King Ahaz.

Hadlai was the father of Amasa, one of the leaders of the tribe of Ephraim who interceded on behalf of the Judean captives taken by the army of the northern kingdom after the battle of Beth-shemesh under King Pekah (2 Chronicles 28:12). Amasa and his colleagues opposed the enslavement of their Judean kin and argued successfully for the captives' release and return. Hadlai is remembered through his son's act of inter-tribal solidarity.
