Jehoahaz

Old Testament

Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, was king of Israel and reigned for seventeen years.

Jehoahaz son of Jehu was the eleventh king of Israel, who reigned seventeen years in Samaria (2 Kings 13:1–9). He 'did what was evil in the sight of the Lord' by following the sins of Jeroboam, and as a result Israel was oppressed by Hazael king of Aram, who reduced the Israelite army to fifty horsemen, ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen. When Jehoahaz sought the Lord, God heard his prayer and provided a deliverer, though Israel did not turn from its sins. He was the father of Joash (Jehoash) of Israel, who continued the Jehu dynasty.
