Lamech, a descendant of Cain, was the first polygamist mentioned in the Bible.
Lamech son of Methushael was a descendant of Cain and the first polygamist mentioned in Scripture, taking two wives, Adah and Zillah (Genesis 4:19). His 'Song of the Sword' (Genesis 4:23–24) is one of the oldest poems in the Bible, in which he boasts of killing a man for wounding him and claims seventy-sevenfold vengeance—inverting the protective mark given to Cain and escalating the cycle of violence. His children include Jabal (the father of nomads), Jubal (the father of musicians), Tubal-cain (the father of metalworkers), and Naamah, representing key aspects of human civilization in its pre-flood form.
