Seth was the third son of Adam and Eve, born after the death of Abel, and became the ancestor of the righteous line of humanity.
Seth was the third son of Adam and Eve, born after Abel's murder by Cain, whose name Eve explained as 'God has appointed for me another offspring instead of Abel' (Genesis 4:25). From Seth came Enosh, in whose time 'people began to call on the name of the LORD' (Genesis 4:26), and the godly line of patriarchs leading to Noah. He appears in the genealogies of 1 Chronicles 1:1 and Luke 3:38, and the Sethite line is traditionally contrasted with the Cainite line in the pre-flood narrative.
