Study Note

The great multitude's praise — 'Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns' — is the New Testament's fullest expression of the 'enthronement psalm' tradition (Psalms 93; 95-99), proclaiming YHWH's universal kingship. The four Hallelujahs of Revelation 19:1-6 are the only uses of the Hebrew term in the New Testament and deliberately invoke the Hallel psalms (Psalms 113-118; 146-150) of Jewish festival liturgy, connecting the eschatological celebration to Israel's worship heritage. The phrase 'the Lord our God the Almighty reigns' (ebasileuse kyrios ho theos hēmōn ho pantokratōr) uses the aorist, perhaps indicating a decisive new reign rather than ongoing rule, or the certainty of the future expressed as past. The verse leads immediately into the wedding supper announcement (verse 7-9), structuring Revelation's climax around royal triumph and covenantal union.
