Amasa

Old Testament

Amasa, along with other leaders of Ephraim, opposed the Israelite army's attempt to bring Judahite captives as slaves to Samaria.

Amasa son of Hadlai was one of the Ephraimite leaders who, following a prophetic rebuke by Oded, convinced the Israelite army to release the Judahite captives they had taken in the war between Israel and Judah during Pekah's reign (2 Chronicles 28:12). This act of mercy—clothing, feeding, and returning the captives—is one of the most striking humanitarian episodes in Chronicles. A more famous Amasa was the son of Abigail (David's sister) and a general appointed by Absalom during the rebellion; later David appointed him to replace Joab, but Joab murdered him (2 Samuel 17:25; 19:13; 20:9–10). These are likely two different individuals.
