Azaliah was the father of Shaphan the scribe, who served during the reign of King Josiah of Judah (2Ki.22.3; 2Ch.34.8).

Azaliah was the father of Shaphan the scribe, who served as a senior official during the reign of King Josiah of Judah (2 Kings 22:3; 2 Chronicles 34:8). Shaphan played a pivotal role in one of the most important events of Josiah's reign: he brought the Book of the Law discovered in the temple to the king, read it aloud to him, and then led the delegation to the prophetess Huldah. The Shaphan family became one of the most influential pro-prophetic families of the late monarchy, and Azaliah is remembered as the patriarch of this remarkable clan whose members included Ahikam (Jeremiah's protector) and Gedaliah (post-fall governor of Judah).
