Basemath

Old Testament

Basemath, daughter of Solomon, was married to Ahimaaz, one of Solomon's twelve district governors.

Basemath, the daughter of Solomon, was married to Ahimaaz, one of Solomon's twelve district governors responsible for providing provisions for the royal court (1 Kings 4:15). Her marriage to a key official illustrates the practice of royal daughters being used to cement political alliances within the kingdom. She is one of only two daughters of Solomon named in the biblical record, alongside Taphath, who was also married to a district governor.
