Hazzelelponi

Exodus & Wilderness Tribe of Judah · H6753
Old Testament

Hazzelelponi was a woman mentioned in the genealogy of Judah.

Hazzelelponi was a woman of the tribe of Judah from the clan of Etam, recorded in 1 Chronicles 4:3 as a sister of Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash. Her name is unique in the Hebrew Bible and means something like 'come to me, O shade' or 'shadow facing me,' a poetic name whose significance is not explained in the text. She represents one of the few women named in the otherwise patrilineal Judahite genealogies, her name preserved perhaps because of her family's prominence in the Judahite clan of Etam.
