Isaiah was a prophet in Judah during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. His prophecies are recorded in the biblical book bearing his name.

Isaiah son of Amoz was a prophet in Jerusalem during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah in the eighth century BCE (Isaiah 1:1). Called in a vision of the heavenly throne room where seraphs cried 'Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts' (Isaiah 6), he proclaimed both judgment against Judah and Israel for unfaithfulness and consolation through the promise of a suffering servant and a new exodus (Isaiah 40–55). His book contains some of the Bible's most celebrated messianic prophecies, including the Immanuel sign (Isaiah 7:14), the birth of the son of David (Isaiah 9:6–7), and the four Servant Songs (Isaiah 42, 49, 50, 52–53). Isaiah is the most quoted Old Testament prophet in the New Testament, and the Dead Sea Scrolls' Great Isaiah Scroll is among the most important manuscript discoveries in biblical archaeology.
