Jahzeiah

Exile > · H3167
Old Testament

Jahzeiah, along with three others, opposed Ezra's order for Israelites to divorce their foreign wives.

Jahzeiah son of Tikvah was one of a small group of men who opposed Ezra's proposal to require Israelite men who had married foreign women to dissolve those marriages (Ezra 10:15). Together with Jonathan son of Asahel, and supported by two Levites, they stood against the assembly's decision in what appears to have been a principled dissent. Whether their opposition was on practical, legal, or humanitarian grounds is not specified, but Jahzeiah represents one of the few voices of recorded objection in the post-exilic reform process.
