Jared

Jared was the sixth patriarch in the antediluvian genealogy of Seth's line, the father of Enoch and the son of Mahalalel, who lived 962 years according to Genesis 5:15–20. His son Enoch is the most theologically celebrated figure of the line, noted for 'walking with God' and being taken by God without dying (Genesis 5:24). In the New Testament Jared appears in the genealogy of Jesus in Luke 3:37. Jewish traditions recorded in 1 Enoch associate the descent of the Watchers to earth during Jared's lifetime, a tradition that drew on his name's possible connection to a Hebrew root for 'descent.'
