Jeshaiah

United Kingdom Tribe of Levi · H3470H
Old Testament

Jeshaiah was a Levite, the son of Jeduthun, and a musician appointed by King David to serve in the tabernacle choir.

Jeshaiah son of Jeduthun was a Levite musician appointed by King David as one of the twenty-four leaders of the sacred song (1 Chronicles 25:3). He and his brothers served under their father Jeduthun, one of the three master musicians of the tabernacle alongside Asaph and Heman. Jeshaiah's division, the eighth, was assigned by lot for the rotation of temple worship. His name, meaning 'salvation of the LORD,' reflects the deeply theological character of the Levitical musical tradition.
