Maacathites

Tribe of Judah(?) · H4602G
Old Testament

An unnamed son of Hodiah, who was the grandson of Naham's sister.

The Maacathites were the inhabitants of Maacah, a small Aramean state on the slopes of Mount Hermon near the territory of Manasseh (Deuteronomy 3:14; Joshua 12:5; 13:13). Israel did not drive them out during the conquest, and they continued to live among the Israelites. In 1 Chronicles 4:19, a 'son of Hodiah' is associated with Maacathites in the genealogy of Judah. Ithmah the Moabite listed among David's warriors (1 Chronicles 11:46) was a Maacathite, reflecting the incorporation of surrounding peoples into David's military.
