Malchiah

Malchiah son of Pashur was a Judahite official who, together with Gedaliah son of Pashur and others, cast the prophet Jeremiah into a cistern to silence him during the siege of Jerusalem (Jeremiah 38:1–6). He is identified as the man who owned the cistern into which Jeremiah sank in the mud. His name and lineage, shared by many others in the Old Testament, reflect the common Yahwistic naming practice of the period, though his actions placed him among those who opposed Jeremiah's prophetic ministry.
