New Testament

Onesiphorus was a friend of Paul who often refreshed him and was not ashamed of his imprisonment.

Onesiphorus was a Christian friend who sought out Paul when the apostle was imprisoned in Rome and repeatedly refreshed him, showing no shame at his chains—contrasted with others from Asia who had turned away from Paul (2 Timothy 1:16–18). Paul also recalls his service at Ephesus. Paul's prayer for the household of Onesiphorus rather than for Onesiphorus himself in 2 Timothy 4:19 has been interpreted by some scholars as implying that Onesiphorus had died by the time of writing, though this inference is not conclusive.
