Pashhur, the ancestor of a priestly family that returned from Babylonian exile.

Pashhur son of Malchijah was the ancestor of a priestly family that returned to Jerusalem from the Babylonian exile, with 1,247 descendants listed in the register (1 Chronicles 9:12; Ezra 2:38; Nehemiah 7:41). His descendant Adaiah served as a priest in post-exilic Jerusalem. The name Pashhur was shared by several notable priestly figures, including the temple overseer who imprisoned Jeremiah (Jeremiah 20:1–6) and officials who opposed Jeremiah's ministry (Jeremiah 21:1; 38:1); this ancestral figure is distinct from those individuals.
