The Chronicler's Manasseh narrative (verses 11–19) stands in sharp contrast to the Kings account (2 Kings 21) which records only Manasseh's wickedness and omits his repentance entirely — illustrating how the Chronicler uses individual retribution and restoration to stress the possibility of repentance for the worst offenders. The Prayer of Manasseh, preserved in the deuterocanonical tradition and Old Testament Pseudepigrapha, fills in what these records may have contained, and remains a powerful penitential text.
