Study Note

Peter's Pentecost sermon reaches its theological climax: 'being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.' The verse presents the Pentecostal gift as the eschatological fruit of Christ's exaltation, making the outpouring a Trinitarian event: the Father promises, the exalted Son receives and pours out, the Spirit descends. The phrase 'at the right hand of God' invokes Psalm 110:1, which Peter has just quoted (verse 34), anchoring the pneumatological claim in the christological confession of Jesus as Lord and Christ. The verse is foundational for the New Testament's pneumatology of exaltation: the Spirit is the gift of the glorified Christ rather than an independent divine agent acting apart from the Son's completed work.
