Deuteronomy 33:29
Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the Lord, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.

Study Note
Moses's blessing of Israel concludes with a rhetorical question — 'who is like you, a people saved by the LORD, the shield of your help and the sword of your triumph?' — presenting Israel's incomparability as derivative of the LORD's incomparability. The fusion of protective (shield) and victorious (sword) imagery presents God as comprehensively effective in defense and offense alike. The final image of enemies cringing and being trodden on their heights reverses the vulnerability of a small nation surrounded by larger powers, grounding security in covenant relationship rather than political or military calculation. The verse belongs to the 'incomparability formula' tradition (Exodus 15:11; Psalm 113:5-6), which was the theological heart of Israelite identity: uniqueness flows from the uniqueness of their God.
