Old Testament

Abi, also known as Abijah, was the mother of King Hezekiah and the daughter of Zechariah.

Abi, also known as Abijah, was the mother of King Hezekiah and the daughter of Zechariah (2 Kings 18:2; 2 Chronicles 29:1). As queen mother she played a position of significant honor in the Judahite court. Hezekiah proved to be one of Judah's most faithful kings, destroying high places, breaking the bronze serpent Nehushtan, and trusting God during the Assyrian crisis under Sennacherib. Abi's influence on her son's remarkable piety is not explicitly described, but the record of her lineage suggests a connection to priestly or prophetic circles through her father Zechariah.
